Published numerous works on comparative linguistics, semiothics, literary criticism.
Laureat of the Lenin Prize (for the study "Indo-European Language and Indo-Europeans" - in collaboration with T. Gamkrelidze).
Professor of Moscow State University and the University of California, Los Angeles.
Lives in Moscow and in Los Angeles.
